VA Secretary Labels Community Care Incredibly Confusing
Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald answers a reporter question at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor about unsustainable disability compensation by saying that in 2009, the VA got about 950,000 claims but in 2017 will probably get 1.7 million claims with sixfold issues per claim, partly because of increased survivability on the battlefield. McDonald refers to five living veterans who have no arms and legs, one of whom could walk in the room and reporters would have recognized that he had no arms and legs. McDonald refers to the terms shellshock and post traumatic stress brain injury. McDonald in sees another question about $7.5 billion for his department, discussing how the Veterans First Act making progress in the senate would consolidate care in communities where veterans live, calling the current seven systems incredibly confusing for veterans and it is incredibly confusing for employees.
