Scientist explains role of pituitary gland in male fertility, UK; 1971

A scientist from St Bartholomew's Medical School, who is working on a male contraceptive (birth control) pill, explains diagrams that he has drawn on a chalkboard relating to male hormones: 'Now A acts on the Leydig tissue and is responsible for the activity of these cells and hence for the production of the testosterone and therefore for the sex drive. What has been less clear has been the function of B and the role of these Sertoli cells. Well, we've helped to show that B acts on the Sertoli cell, and that the Sertoli cell also produces a hormone, which in fact is the same kind of hormone - testosterone.'
