Ambulance carrying very ill Russian opposition leader arrives at Berlin medical clinic
BERLIN, GERMANY - AUGUST 22: Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who allegedly was poisoned, has been transferred to a German medical clinic treatment. Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmish said on social media that Navalny and his wife have been transferred to Berlin on an ambulance aircraft from Russia’s Omsk city. A private ambulance plane carrying Navalny landed in the Tegel Airport. Navalny was taken to the Berlin Charite Clinic under heavy security measures after first being examined at airport in Berlin.
Earlier on Friday a medical plane of the Berlin Charite clinic landed in Omsk to take Navalny to Berlin for treatment. Navalny, 44, a vociferous critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, fell ill on a flight from the Siberian city of Tomsk to Moscow Thursday morning. The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk and Navalny was rushed to a hospital, where he was on a ventilator in intensive care. Commenting on the incident, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it is necessary to wait for the test results, if they show Navalny was poisoned, there will be an investigation.
