Russia alleges Ukrainian agents detonate bomb in botched attack
KHANTY-MANSIYSK, RUSSIA — RELEASED ON APR. 30, 2025 — RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “RUSSIAN INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO — EDITORIAL USE ONLY — Russian Investigative Committee announced on Wednesday, April 30, that two suspects allegedly connected to Ukrainian intelligence services unintentionally detonated an explosive in Khanty-Mansiysk while preparing to assassinate a Russian soldier.
According to the committee, one of the suspects is a Ukrainian national while the other is a Belarusian national.
The improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on April 12, injuring five people including the suspects. In addition, two apartments were damaged.
The court has ordered the suspects to be held in pre-trial detention.
A citizen of the Republic of Moldova, suspected of delivering IED components, is also being investigated for possible involvement in the crime.
