Tim Conway: Rosemary from “The Dick Van Dyke Show” was coming through town and she saw what we were doing and she said, “That’s really funny.” and I said, “Well it’s not supposed to be, we’re actually fighting for our lives here, I can’t do anything, he can’t do anything.” So she said, “I’m going to take some of this stuff to Steve Allan”. She took it out to Steve, Steve said “Hey! Okay, bring him out.” I went out to Steve Allan, did about 3 shows, he went off the air, I came back to Cleveland. The producer of McHale’s Navy had seen that show, and he said “Why don’t you come out and do “McHale’s Navy”?” And I said, “No I think I’m going to stay out in Cleveland, it’s a lot o fun here and I like it here.” And he said, “You gotta be crazy?!” So the manager at the station fired me and said, “You gotta go out there, this is stupid.” So I did go out there, went on McHale’s Navy, and so long.
