A representative of Westonbirt Arboretum gives a summary of storm damage to trees, mentioning rare species and ornamental trees: 'Er a lot of snow over one long evening, one night, brought down a lot of trees. I should think somewhere in the region of about 500, 600, big trees have been damaged. And most of the damage is big branches like the one here that have fallen down - perhaps four or five tonnes of branch which have fallen down, and invariably crushed other species - other more important trees - underneath. But not very many rare trees have gone, perhaps a handful, perhaps six or seven. One or two very ornamental trees have gone - but most of them we shall be able to save.' Gloucestershire, UK; 1981.
