Astonishing 'Ring of Fire' solar eclipse observed in Colombia
TATACOA, COLOMBIA - OCTOBER 14, 2023: A rare annular solar eclipse, creating a "ring of fire" around the Sun, was captured in Tatacoa desert in Colombia on Saturday (October 14).
Many people gathered in the desert to witness the annular solar eclipse using eclipse glasses and telescopes.
The celestial phenomenon will not cross the US again until nearly a quarter-century later, in 2046, Kelly Korreck, NASA’s eclipse program manager, told CNN.
This unique eclipse is often referred to as a "ring of fire" because the Moon, when at its farthest point from Earth within its orbit, doesn't completely cover the Sun, resulting in a ring-like appearance.
As the eclipse begins, it takes on a crescent shape.
