A race "that would alarm most chiropractors" saw competitors showing off their strength as they ran up and down a steep hill, laden down with heavy wool sacks. "The concept is disarmingly simple and utterly mad: you run up a hill carrying a full sack of wool on your back. Then you hand it off to a teammate who runs it back up again, like some sort of bizarre rural relay event dreamed up by livestock," Painter said. "The hill in question, Gumstool Hill, is so steep it feels like it was designed as a prank. It's the sort of incline that makes you reconsider your life choices halfway through tying your shoelaces," he continued. "The woolsacks aren't just symbolic, either - they're proper 60-pound monsters for the men and a still-quite-impressive 30 pounds for the women."
