Climate Activists Block Traffic On Broadway During A Public Power Bill Protest

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 02: Protestors hold derogatory placard signs of NY State Democratic powerhouses Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Assembly, Speaker Carl Heastie, and Assembly, Energy Committee Chairs Kevin Parker and Michael Cusick as environmental activists rally outside downtown Manhattans City Hall demanding that the New York State Assembly pass the Build Public Renewables Act on June 2, 2021 in New York City. The rally was held by several NYC city council candidates and the Democratic Socialists of America led group Public Power Coalition. The activists chained themselves and the New York Police Department (NYPD) Emergency Service Unit intervened to release or unchain the activist blocking traffic on Broadway outside City Hall. All chained activists were arrested. Per the New York State Senate website, Assembly Bill A1466A Implements the New York State Build Public Renewables Act requiring the New York power authority to provide only renewable energy and power to customers; requires such authority to be the sole provider of energy to all state owned and municipal properties; repeals certain provisions relating thereto.
