LIMA, PERU - NOVEMBER 3: Princess Kako of Japan and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ignacio Higueras, came together in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Lima, Peru on Friday, November 3, 2023, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Peru. The two nations have shared a longstanding diplomatic bond that has strengthened cultural and economic ties over the years. Peru was the first country which Japan established diplomatic relations within the Latin America region in 1873. In 1899, Peru became the first country to which Japanese people immigrated in to SouthAmerican continent, and today there are approximately 100,000 people Japanese-Peruvians. Japan ranks as Peru's fourth-largest trading partner, following China, the United States, and the European Union.
