- One of them certainly. I think we all feel the alliance is subjected to some pretty severe stresses and strains. We want to make it more effective - more effective peace-keeping machinery and we want to do it in such a way - all of us I think are agreed on this - as to enable us to take new initiatives, particularly in the field of reducing East/West tension and stopping the spread of nuclear weapons.
Q: Have you had any preliminary indication from US government about your plans for an Atlantic nuclear force rather than a multilateral force?
- Well we're talking over the whole field when we get there and I believe from my experience it's better to talk when you get round a table and not to try and establish positions in advance.
