The person's sacrifice. The time he sacrificed with his family and his friends. The single minded determination to make the next sale, to make the next step, to guarantee that you could pay the next months wage bill.On the same belief triumphing over other people's doubts.Now that is what makes entrepreneur. I lost my dad last year, shortly before the election. There are times that I miss him most of all. Standing here before the CBI as Britain's business secretary is one of those moments.And my dad, like every entrepreneur in this room, had confidence in what could be done and what he could do to make it happen.And there are some real reasons to have confidence in Britain too, in our country, with huge strengths, unmatched scientific capabilities, A globally influential financial sector, creative brilliance in every region and manufacturing expertise admired around the world.As we turn the corner, there is every reason for national economic optimism.I believe that if we make the right decisions now, we can lead the world in clean energy, biotechnology, AI, advanced manufacturing, creating content, fintech, digital trade, and in the next generation of industries that have yet to be imagined.That is only possible if we make Britain a better place to do business and a more rewarding location to take business risks, the start-ups and scale up to capital Europe of the world of Europe to enhance the skills and the workforce and employability of our people.To create more productive and a more productive and competitive economy, and an economy that w...
