Kuroki started planting phlox for his wife Yasuko, who became blind due to diabetes 29 years ago and lost her hope for life. Kuroki thought phlox would make people visit his garden, make his wife interacting with those visitors and get back smile on her face even though she cannot see the flowers. Decades later many people visit the garden and meet the couple.
