Federal Reserve nominee acknowledges federal deficit as unsustainable path, asked about dual mandate at confirmation hearing
Pennsylvania Senator David McCormick asks Federal Reserve Vice Chairman for Supervision nominee Michelle Bowman about national debt in relation to Treasury markets, noting that debt-to-GDP ratio was expected to climb from 98% to about 130% over the next decade, and she responded that fiscal responsibility belonged to Congress and the administration while acknowledging the current fiscal path was unsustainable with debt growing much faster than economic growth, especially concerning given that budget deficits were occurring during a time of full employment at a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee confirmation hearing.
