RUSHES: Dalai Lama interview: Part One

Dalai Lama interview: Part One; ENGLAND: London:INTInterview 1 of 514th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso) (Exiled Leader of Tibet) interview SOT (ITN reporter Tom Bradby not seen)- (on how he explains devotion and loyalty of people despite his exile) It's a Tibetan response, they consider Dalai Lama a symbol of Tibet / main cause I believe is Chinese attitude / Chinese attitude is so negative towards Tibetan religion, tradition or culture / therefore I think it's a Tibetan response to that- (Chinese have done terrible things to country, how do you feel personally about what they've done) Of course it's sad, I believe the main cause is Chinese ignorance, lack of knowledge of Tibetan history or culture / I think most important thing, after Chinese so-called liberated Tibet, young people of Tibet very much against Chinese rule / Chinese government do not understand what is the real Tibetan feel / no effort from Chinese side to unify or have better relations with minorities, especially Tibetan, East Pakistanis and Mongolian / these areas are quite sensitive / due to lack of respect and genuine concern, there is a gap forming between Chinese and all minorities, particularly in the Tibetan case / gap has become greater and greater, due to lack of knowledge, lack of awareness / if outside world shows genuine concern, Chinese will be more compelled to take more careful study, analysis of Tibetan culture / historically, there is Chinese pride, they consider themselves something very civilised, more so than others that they consider barbaric
