Palestinian killed by Israeli tank fire in northern Gaza despite ongoing ceasefire

BEIT LAHIA, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - MARCH 4, 2025: A Palestinian man lost his life as a result of an Israeli army tank fire in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, on Tuesday, March 4, despite a ceasefire in effect. On Sunday, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that the death toll had reached 116, with over 490 injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement took effect in January. The first six-week phase of the ceasefire agreement, which took effect on Jan. 19, officially ended at midnight on Saturday. But Israel has not agreed to move forward to the second phase of the deal to bring an end to the war in Gaza. Nearly 48,400 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 111,000 others injured in a brutal Israeli war since October 2023. The onslaught, which left the enclave in ruins, was paused under a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold on Jan. 19. Despite the ceasefire, the Gaza local authorities reported almost daily violations by the Israeli army. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. (Footage by Abdalhkem Abu Riash/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
