Australian Artist Caroline Zilinsky Destroys Own Work To Protest Climate Change

Caroline Zilinsky defaced her own work to interrogate the reasoning behind climate group "Just Stop Oil" activists' recent vandalism of works by Vincent Van Gogh in London galleries. Zilinsky's large landscape was inscribed with the words "Ceci nest pas une planete" (This is Not A Planet) after French surrealist painter Rene Magritte's seminal work "The Treachery of Images" (1929). It was then hit with paint in the signature orange used by the climate activist group "Just Stop Oil".
