Kentucky residents struggle with loss and damage in aftermath of deadly tornadoes
KENTUCKY, USA - DECEMBER 12: "Our town is gone," says one of the victims of Mayfield, one of the hardest-hit cities by the latest tornadoes in Kentucky, US.
"People need places to go. We need housing, we need food, we need clothes, those who used medication need medicine," Alan Shane Williams says.
He is only one of the hundreds of Mayfield residents affected by the disaster.
Another one is Shyheim Mclampbell, who said his hometown and everything that he knew growing up is gone now.
"We need help, not only reparation help, but we need help stabilizing the citizens of this city, because we do not know what is next, we do not know what to do next. We see our homes and our families' homes are gone," he added.
There are many others who have told about the disaster they have faced as well as the ongoing rescue efforts in the region.
"I have been to a lot of these storms, this is pretty devastating. It is, I would say, the worst hurricane I have ever seen," says Kendra Patocki, who is working for a disaster recovery team.
"We have got a lot of ground to cover, we have got a lot of people to help, and hopefully we can start getting this town back on the route to recovery," she says.
Aerial footage from the city also shows the extent of the disaster with a number of destroyed buildings and piles of destructed vehicles.
"Looking around here, it just shows the true devastation of mother nature, but also it shows the true love and care for even the smallest of communities. There are people here from everywhere. I talked to somebody from Georgia who is helping out with the rescue efforts," says Eric Jorgensten, who came to help the tornado victims from the Junction City, Kansas.
"We drove 8.5 hours to come and help out in any way or shape we could with this horrible disaster."(Footage by Lokman Vural Elibol /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
