Congresswoman Hoyle reacts to Trump administration gutting NIOSH with impact on firefighter cancer registry
Oregon Congresswoman Val Hoyle says in House floor remarks that two days prior, she received a text from a firefighter in the district saying he found out he had a rare blood cancer and discovered there existed no firefighter cancer registry, while in Gresham, Oregon, investigators were fired in the middle of an investigation for a firefighter who spent months in the hospital after surviving a flash fire, prompting criticism that Republican colleagues would fall over themselves to thank firefighters on 9/11 but remained silent as protections for firefighters were dismantled.
