Celebrating God of Thunder and Fire: Nigeria's Sango Festival
OYO, NIGERIA - AUG. 19: One of Nigeria's most famous festivals, the Sango Festival, took place on Saturday, August 19, in the southwestern city of Oyo.
During the festival, attendees danced in traditional attire to the rhythm of Yoruba music, engaging in cultural dances and participating in customary rituals.
The event, considered one of the oldest African festivals in Nigeria, attracted participants from across the country and also from countries like Brazil, the Caribbean, and Cuba.
The festival is held every year in August in honor of Sango, whom the Yoruba people recognize as the "god of thunder and fire," and who became the third king of the Oyo Empire after succeeding his brother Ajaka.
