Bordoni delighted Broadway in musicals from 1912 to 1940. She toured as a vaudeville headliner, and starred as a comedienne in five successive hit plays in the post-World War I period, all of them adaptations of French farces. Her first American-authored vehicle, was a 1928 comedy with Cole Porter music and lyrics, "Paris." When not playing Parisians in the theaters, she emoted on the witnesses stands of the U.S. court systems which she kept active with a string of lawsuits during her career. Her final appearance on Broadway, 1940's "Louisiana Purchase," was her greatest success.
