TEHRAN, IRAQ - NOVEMBER 4, 2023: On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the occupation of the US Embassy in Tehran, demonstrations were held in many cities in Iran, especially in Tehran. Thousands of people participated in the demonstration, chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans Speaking at the program in Tehran, Iranian Parliament Speaker Muhammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that the source of all their problems is the United States and Israel, saying, "Throughout history, Americans have opposed our national security and progress in every way, resorting to conspiracies, wars, and coups." After the February 10, 1979 revolution, which Ayatollah Khomeini described as 'a revolution greater than the first,' all diplomatic bridges between Iran and the United States were severed. In an incident that is recorded as the longest diplomatic hostage crisis in modern world diplomatic history, armed groups that occupied the embassy released a sick woman and 13 African American diplomats among the remaining 66 diplomats, after those who managed to escape secretly. They held 52 individuals hostage for 444 days. Following lengthy negotiations in Algeria between the United States and Iran, an agreement was reached on January 20, 1981, and the release of the hostages was officially accepted.
