Secretary McMahon looks to Education Department workforce, workload for cuts while not having missed a beat on statutorily required programs, contracts, asked about early tenure

Oklahoma Congresswoman Stephanie Bice asks Education Secretary Linda McMahon to describe reforms she was implementing to cut waste fraud and abuse at the Department and return education to the states while clarifying that she was not eliminating Title One funding or IDEA funding, and McMahon explained that they reduced the Department by about half based on looking to wind down the Department but brought some back when they evaluated programs, decreased their building footprint for savings on rent utilities and building space, and examined contracts while delivering on all statutorily required programs at a fiscal year 2026 budget hearing by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
