The Shah had been overthrown in February, and Iranian revolutionaries feared the U.S., which had a long history of support for the Shah, including a coup in his support in 1953, would try to reinstate him. Admitting the Shah to a U.S. hospital intensified that fear. The taking of the Embassy prompted anti-Iranianism in the U.S. Thus, the "irritation" Agah speaks of reflects dual anti-Americanism and anti-Iraniansim.
