Nigeria becomes first finalist in Africa Cup of Nations
NIGERIA - FEBRUARY 7: Nigeria, defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations, reached the final after the normal and extra time periods ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday (February 7).
Nigeria and South Africa met in the semi-final of the 34th African Cup of Nations organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Ivory Coast this year.
Nigeria took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute with William Troost-Ekong's goal from a penalty.
South Africa evened the score 1-1 with Teboho Mokoena's penalty goal in the 90th minute.
After the normal and extra time periods ended in a 1-1 draw, Nigeria, won 4-2 in the penalty shootout, made it to the final.
During the match South Africa's Gomolemo Kekana received a red card in the 115th minute.
Fenerbahce's player Bright Osayi-Samuel, starting the match in the first 11 for Nigeria, was replaced by Kasımpasa's Kenneth Omeruo in the 120+2nd minute.
