Senator Udall press statement opposing ANWR drilling under tax reform

New Mexico Senator Tom Udall says at a press conference with Senate Democrats that as vice chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee that dealing with Native American tribes meant policy changes should have tribal consultation before taking dramatic actions such as reintroducing oil drilling into the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, citing a tribe whose subsistence lifestyle uses every single piece of porcupine caribou found throughout the refuge. Udall says that his uncle expanded the refuge dramatically in 1980 and a compromise over the 1002 area designated by Congress specifically in terms of oil and gas and he would be horrified that their great compromise could be reversed by a provision stuck in a tax bill moving very, very quickly down the road.
