CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 16, 2025: Natalie Portman walked the red carpet during the premiere of the film Eddington at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on Friday, May 16, in Cannes, France.
Directed by Ari Aster, the contemporary Western is set in May 2020 amidst the early days of the pandemic in the fictional town of Eddington, New Mexico. Joaquin Phoenix stars as Sheriff Joe Cross and Pedro Pascal as Mayor Ted Garcia, whose political rivalry ignites community tensions. Emma Stone plays Louise Cross, Joe's wife, and Austin Butler plays Vernon Jefferson Peak, a conspiracy theorist who influences the town's dynamics. The ensemble cast also includes Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell and Michael Ward.
Eddington explores themes of political polarization, misinformation and societal unrest, reflecting the challenges faced during the pandemic era.
