Animation of cancerous plasma cells in multiple myeloma, emitting paraproteins (red) in response to the presence of bacteria (light blue) in the blood. Healthy plasma cells emit antibodies to fight foreign organisms such as bacteria. In myeloma the plasma cells are cancerous and abnormal, and instead emit non-functional versions of the antibodies called paraproteins.
