Martin Scorsese Talks About How His Family Didn't Read Much When He Was Growing Up
Martin Scorsese: My parents were working class people. We never had a book in the house. No books, just ‘The [New York] Daily News’ and the ‘Daily Mirror.’ He took me to movies, my father. Basically and that was it. I learned visual things. I started reading when I was about 16. And only in the past five or six years, maybe eight years have I been reading a lot. I wish I had read more but, *sigh.
Interviewer: Yeah, I grew up the same way. I remember, we had a subscription to ‘Reader’s Digest'.
Martin Scorsese: Oh, well that’s more advanced. My God, you’re high class. Wow
