Muslims gather for Friday prayer at mosque despite challenging conditions in Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI - MARCH 22, 2024: Muslims gathered at the At-Tawheed mosque in Port-au-Prince for Friday prayer on Friday (March 22) despite challenging conditions in Haiti.
Several districts of Port-au-Prince are currently experiencing shortages of fuel and drinking water.
The UN announced on Thursday that 5.5 million of Haiti's 11.4 million residents are in need of humanitarian aid, 3 million of whom are children.
Haiti has been plagued for years by gang violence and political instability.
The situation has deteriorated considerably in recent months, with kidnappings, murders, armed robberies and other violent crimes becoming commonplace.
In Port-au-Prince, no one is safe from stray bullets fired by armed terrorists. Since Thursday February 29, 2024, the cabin of a plane flying from Haiti to Cuba has been hit by automatic weapons fire.
The buildings of Toussaint Louverture International Airport and the Guy Malary terminal were not spared.
Panic in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area forced the authorities to cancel all flights to and from the United States.
