Federal Agents Deploy Irritants Against Minneapolis Protesters After Fatal Shooting
Multiple demonstrators were exposed to chemical irritants while protesting the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on Wednesday, January 7, footage shows. Video from Status Coup News documents chaotic scenes near the site of the shooting. Officers wearing Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) vests can be seen clashing with protesters and firing a yellow substance toward demonstrators' faces. Another clip shows protesters standing in front of a federally operated van in an apparent attempt to block it. Federal agents then exit the vehicle as snowballs are thrown at them. BORTAC agents are then seen attempting to spray protesters again, while demonstrators use an umbrella to shield themselves. Federal agents then shove the activists aside to allow the vehicle to move through. An irritant, described by a voice in the video as tear gas, is deployed to disperse the crowd. Protests https://newswire.storyful.com/story/335746 continued in Minneapolis on Thursday outside an ICE field office. In a statement posted to social media regarding the death of Good, the Department of Homeland Security https://x.com/DHSgov/status/2008958123092979817?s=20 said : 'ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism. An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased.' (Footage by Status Coup News/Storyful via Getty Images UGC)
