Minnesota Congressman Pete Stauber says in floor debate on his bill to award Congressional Gold Medals to members of the 1980 US Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, in recognition of their extraordinary achievement at the 1980 Winter Olympics where, being comprised of amateur collegiate players, they defeated the dominant Soviet hockey team in the historic Miracle on Ice that no one could forget the legendary words from announcer Al Michaels on Friday, February 22nd, 1980, when the hockey team, composed of amateurs from college ranks, beat the most powerful team in the world during the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, even though nobody gave them a chance and the game was tape delayed because they didn't think it would be significant, yet it became the most powerful moment in the history of sports. The bill later passed.
