Congressman Stauber recalls role of Minnesota in American hockey, role in developing 1980 Olympic men's Miracle on Ice team

Minnesota Congressman Pete Stauber says in floor debate on his bill to award Congressional Gold Medals to members of the 1980 US Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, in recognition of their extraordinary achievement at the 1980 Winter Olympics where, being comprised of amateur collegiate players, they defeated the dominant Soviet hockey team in the historic Miracle on Ice that the state of Minnesota was the state of hockey, it was their way of life, and as the first professional hockey player ever to be elected to the US Congress, with two brothers who played professional hockey and a nephew who played with the Utah Hockey Club, he emphasized how unimaginable the 1980 Olympic team's achievement was and players from his district who came from small towns, grew up loving the game, and when they put on the USA jersey coached by Herb Brooks, they were conditioned, ready, and played as a team. The bill later passed.
