Shrewsbury 24 members arrive at the Court of Appeal
Members of the so-called 'Shrewsbury 24″ have arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice in a bid to finally clear their names at the Court of Appeal, after picketing during a national builders’ strike almost five decades ago.
Interview with Terry Renshaw. In attendance was Terry Renshaw, Eileen & Mike Turnbull, Harry Chadwick and then John McKinsie Jones and his wife Rita and lawyer Jamie Potter.
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates possible miscarriages of justice, referred the 14 men’s convictions last year on the basis that new evidence creates “a real possibility the Court of Appeal will quash the convictions”. At a hearing in London on Wednesday, lawyers representing the 14 pickets will tell the court that original witness statements were destroyed and this was not disclosed to the defence or the court.
