Nicola Sturgeon MSP (First Minister) interview SOT
Q: What are the four nation-agreed Christmas plans?
- Agreed to allow a window over festive period (23rd - 27th December) - permissible for three households to mix inside private dwelling, place of worship or outdoors - just because this can be done it's not the case that people should - asking people to stay well within these limits - if you can, try to limit your interaction
Q: So no travel restrictions across UK?
- Will be lifted for people moving across UK - bubble is fixed bubble for five day period - not saying people have to do this - virus is not going to take Christmas off 0 still urging people to be cautious - use flexibility responsibility
Q: Cautious enough for you?
- Thought very hard - recognised particular dangers of loneliness and isolation - everyday from now, I and others like me will be saying "Look, be responsible about this'" - If you can get through Xmas without seeing another household, do that - if have a relative on their own this allows you to see them
Q: So nothing for Hogmanay?
- Risk if we allow flexibility for Christmas and then Hogmanay - find the risks are exacerbated - still in a pandemic - with hope of vaccine on horizon the last thing we want to do is set progress back
Q: Over Christmas will families be able to hug each other?
- We will put out guidance - caution against - continue to be cautious in terms of physical contact - think about hand hygiene, ventilation - virus won't go away for Christmas - no Xmas truce - difficult balance - flexibility but if you can stay well within the limits
