CU Moss Hart (Producer) interview SOF
- Not exactly the same production New York saw. In order to save all of our reasons, I mean Rex's and Julie's and Stanley's and mine, and to freshen us up and make it a little more adventurous for us, I did restage some of the musical numbers, but the physical production itself
is not only exactly the same as America, but I think better , I think the scenery is better, I think the costumes are better, you see we have more time to get it right here, we didn't have to rush I think the costumes are more dazzling and I think the scenery is better constructed and painted than it was in America.
2-shot Alan Jay Lerner
CU Alan Jay Lerner (Lyric Writer) interview SOF
[Do you like working with Shaw?] Of course, he's a marvellous collaborator, he is a bit challenging of course, because usually, although I haven't done many adaptations, and actually this is my first one, you find scenes in play you want to set to music. In Shaw you cannot set what he has written to music because he has said it better than you could ever say in musical lyrics. [Would Shaw himself approve?] I don't know, the only, Shaw said when somebody asked him once about doing his things to music he said the only composer who could possible set it would be Mozart and he was dead. So whether he would still feel that way I don't know. I really have no idea what he would enjoy, whether he would like it or not
