Congressman Mfume remarks on increasing minority participation in clinical trials

Maryland Congressman Kweisi Mfume says says in a bill requiring a Government Accountability Office study on how federal agencies adjust barriers to federally funded cancer clinical trials by minority populations named for Henrietta Lacks that it was long recognized that the burden of cancer was not equal or equivalent among different racial and ethnic groups in society, in fact a fourfold increase or disparity in the number of black people diagnosed with cancer as compared to the proportion of black people participating in clinical trials, trying to deal with drug companies to come up with a number of vaccines including four coronavirus it was clear there were never in the first is of ethnic backgrounds, including African Americans and Latinos who are in the trials, reminding all that 20 percent of all Alzheimer's patients in the country were African American while only up to 10 percent of trial disciplines.
