- [Asked about knife crime in London] I have campaigned to have mandatory prison sentences for anyone found carrying a gun, Boris voted against that, I campaigned for mandatory prison sentences for anyone found carrying a knife, I've been doing this for years, we've actually got 10,000 more police and PCSOs on the street, that's why crime is coming down / we have a huge problem with teenage crime and teenage killings, I've been able to persuade the government to give us nearly 80 million pounds to rebuild youth provision, to get kids out of gangs and off the street

- My response to the Mayor is, I don't think he's reflecting peoples everyday experience in London, where muggings are going up, we have twice as many muggings now in London as they have in New York and I think you need a mayor who is going to get a grip and make a difference / what I'm proposing is to take control of the areas for which the mayor is directly responsable, beginning with the buses where people often feel very intimidated, in the middle of the afternoon, with kids coming out of school and making life hell for people on the buses, I'm going to reallocate some of the mayor's publicity budget into 440 new transport officers and take away the right of free travel from the minority of kids who are abusing it
