Labour Party Conference: Ken Livingstone speech
Labour Party Conference: Ken Livingstone speech; Ken Livingstone speech SOT
- One of those unions hasn't been on strike since 1926 but you're paid 250,000 pounds a year on top of your mayoral salary to write a column in the Daily Telegraph, isn't it time you dropped the column and concentrated on the day job so Londoners don't have to walk to work? / if Boris won't meet with the tube union leaders, let me challenge him to meet with me in the 32 town halls across London, directly and openly with Londoners debating his policy / Boris I know you're watching, you watch everything I do, so take up the challenge, stop hiding behind photo opportunities and press stunts and debate with me / my name is to protect Londoners from the cuts of this government / I'm going to campaign in every London borough to spread that message / people will look to see what happens in London to have an idea of what would happen under a Labour government / on Herbert Morrison and his legacy / on need for council housing - government to build decent homes for families to be able to rent / if we build 100,000 homes a year we put 750,000 people back to work / choice between Labour investment or Tory cuts / nobody ever got out of a deficit by slashing services / in 2012 Londoners will have a chance to send a message to Cameron and Osborne that we don't want these cuts to our public services, fewer jobs and declining standards / vote Johnson out, not just because it's good for London, but because it will be a step towards electing Ed Miliband as Prime Minister of Britain and beginning the task of building a fairer society for all the people in all our towns and cities here in this country
