- Clear for some time that would happen -no point in having an inquiry which isnt credible
- Really serious issues -First thing we did was to call in the police
- As soon as we get the green light from the police, we'll launch our own inquiry, it will be independent and thorough
RE: Was it right for George Entwhistle to go ahead when he knew there was a Newsnight investigation?
- I don't think...
- For years, newspaper editors knew there were rumours about Jimmy Saville
- I don't think the fact the Director General knew there was an inquiry should have made him pulll a programme

- The charge originally was that the programme was pulled for the interest of the BBC
- I'm sure that ITV wouldn't pull an investigation for the interest of ITV
- I think George knew, that should not have affected any issues about broadcasting

RE: They didn't bring the police in -Newsnight had allegations -they were doing a report
- Newsnight dropped those allegations for editorial reasons
- Now you're returning to the charge that BBC dropped it for its own interest
