(part 1 of 2) - That's not quite true, I have indeed reversed most of the tax measures in the mini-budget...but it's actually only a small part of what she and I both want to do and when you hear the fiscal statement in two weeks time I think you'll hear a much fuller picture as to how we are going to deliver long-term sustainable economic growth, which is the key / I don't pretend this hasn't been a difficult period for the government and for the Prime Minister, what I would say is, I would prefer a leader who listens, who learns and when things need to change in the national interest, is prepared to take difficult decisions and make those changes, that's what we had today / some of the facts haven't changed but I would say this, although there were some mistakes, and I've been very clear about that, we've changed those, but the big mistake, that the markets understandably didn't like, was the lack of an OBR forecast, to go alongside the mini-budget and that will change for a fortnight's time, the overall volatility in the markets is largely driven by international factors and as we go forward, that the reason why I as Chancellor can't say that simply not going ahead with those measures will mean the volatility will end because we still have the war in Ukraine, the global hike in energy prices, the impact of the pandemic, and there's going to be ongoing volatility / I want people with mortgages who are worried about their family finances to know, that in this country the government is doing everything we can to keep those rises to the barest minimum necessary / [on whether Liz Truss can survive] yes, I'll tell you why, because a change in leadership....is going to create more instability and that will be bad for people at home who worry about their family finances / my job as chancellor is to try and provide that certainty / the biggest thing I can do is to...
