Wild scenes at Narita Airport as Samurai Blue returns home

Japan's national soccer squad returned home to a heroes' welcome July 5, despite its World Cup loss in Russia. An estimed 800 fans decked out in blue were on hand to greet the Samurai Blue members on their arrival at Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture. Although Japan reached the best 16 for the first time in two World Cups, the 3-2 loss to Belgium on July 3 dashed its hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals. The fans clapped and cheered as coach Akira Nishino, 63, escorted the team members through the airport lobby.
