LEDs, Northern Images To Feature Hokkaido Bullet Train Cabins

HOKKAIDO, JAPAN - NOV. 20: Japan's Hokkaido Railway Co. announced on Thursday November 20 that the cabins of the new Shinkansen bullet train set to run in Japan's northern most main island of Hokkaido for the first time in 2016 will be lit by energy-saving LEDs and snow crystals are used as key interior design to symbolize the images of north. The new trains were open to the press here on the day. While the exterior of the train follows the sharp streamline shape of Tohoku Shinkansen connecting Aomori and Tokyo, interior of the cabin features deep blue as basic room color with patterns of snow crystals spotted on carpets and window blinds. The nicknames of Hokkaido bullet trains will be Hayabusa -- falcon -- and Hayate -- gale--, both same as Tohoku. The new Shinkansen will connect southern Hokkaido and Tokyo via Seikan undersea tunnel and the same route of Tohoku Shinkansen in just over four hours at a maximum speed of about 320 kilometers per hour. It is planned to eventually extend further north to Sapporo, in the central part of Hokkaido.
