Italians vote to elect their new mayors
ROME, ITALY - OCTOBER 03: Italians began to cast their ballots on Sunday, Oct. 3, to elect their new mayors, including that of the capital Rome.
The two-day election will see over 10 million voters who will decide on mayors of around 1,000 cities and towns.
Footage also shows the candidate mayor of Rome for Democratic Party Roberto Gualtieri as he cast his ballot on Sunday.
Current Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, a member of the populist Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S), is also seeking re-election. She was the first woman to hold the office of Rome mayor.
Another candidate mayor is Carlo Calenda, 48, the leader of the liberal and progressive political party Azione. He has been on the Rome campaign trail for almost a year.
The new mayor will serve for a five-year term. (Footage by Baris Seckin/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
