TEHRAN, IRAN - SEPTEMBER 29: Iran’s women’s ice hockey team has been camping to prepare for the 2022 Asian Cup. The Iranian female athletes will take to the ice in the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia which will be held in May 2022. The women’s ice hockey team started the camp for the Asian cup on September 1, according to a statement by the Ice Skating Federation of the country. Ice hockey women athletes have passed the first stage of their selection camp to participate at IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in Manilla, said the federation. Anadolu Agency videoed the female athletes’ training in capital Tehran on Wednesday (Sept. 29). The purpose of the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia is to provide competitive opportunities for Asian teams that are either in the lower divisions of the IIHF World Championships or did not compete in any IIHF World Championships. The first edition was held in Hong Kong from 24 to 26 April 2008, with the second edition held a year later in the United Arab Emirates. The first women's tournament took place in Shanghai, China from 10 to 14 April 2010. 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Iran joined the International Ice Hockey Federation as a member in 2019. It has made another step forward in the coolest game on earth by hosting the first men’s and women’s ice hockey championships in Tehran last March.
