Chinese New Year preparations in Indonesia with baking of traditional 'Basket Cake'
DEPOK, INDONESIA - JAN. 31, 2024: Indonesian-Chinese communities in Indonesia are planning to celebrate Chinese New Year with the traditional "Kue Keranjang" or "Basket Cake."
Anadolu Video (AAVN) captured on Wednesday (Jan. 31) the baking process of the traditional Basket Cake in the Depok city of the West Java province.
This sweet delicacy, also known as Nian Gao in Chinese, is made from glutinous rice flour, water, and sugar, with optional additions like pandan leaves for flavor.
Shaped like a round basket, the cake symbolizes prosperity and good fortune, steamed to achieve a chewy texture.
Believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and longevity, Kue Keranjang is a cherished symbol during the festivities, often exchanged as gifts among families and friends.
