China launches Two Astronauts From Desert Pad For 30 Day Space Station Stay
In video footage taken on Oct. 16-17 near the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China, Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong are congratulated by military officers and well-wishers in ethnic costumes before they board the Shenzhou 11 spacecraft readied to carry them to the Tiangong 2 experimental space laboratory orbiting Earth. Launched successfully at 7:30 a.m. on October 17, 2016 , the rocket will require less than two days to bring the pair to the space station where they are expected to remain for 30 days.
