Heavily-injured Palestinian kids fighting for survival at Gaza's Nasser hospital

KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - DEC. 21, 2023: In the intensive care unit of Gaza's Nasser hospital, Palestinian kids who got seriously injured by Israel's air strikes are fighting for their survival. Footage shows some of those poor kids who can hardly breathe with oxygen tanks beside their bed. They are among the youngest victims of Israel's ongoing war on Gaza that left around 20,000 civilians dead so far. The medical complex in Khan Younis is the "largest remaining fully functional hospital in Gaza, hosting large number of children," UN children's agency spokesperson said recently. "Over the past 48 hours, the largest remaining fully functional hospital in Gaza has been shelled twice. That hospital is Al Nasser," spokesman James Elder said in a UN press briefing in Geneva. The Nasser Medical Complex "not only shoulders large numbers of children who have brutal wounds of war, but it also shelters hundreds and hundreds of women and children from across the Gaza Strip who were simply seeking safety," Elder said. Israel's air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas have killed at least 19,453 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to health authorities in the enclave. Nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack, while more than 130 hostages remain in captivity. (Footage by Muhanned Alkhatib /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
