A Blackout During The First Shinkansen Emergency Drills
AOMORI, JAPAN – FEB. 9: In anticipation of the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line in March, emergency drills were conducted for the first time by Hokkaido Railway Company and East Japan Railway Company- using the Shinkansen rail cars in the Seikan Tunnel(53.85 km) - before dawn on February 9. However, because the Shinkansen suffered a blackout, operations were subject to emergency shutdown. The cause was said to be an error which occurred in the switching of transmission of power by
Hokkaido Railway Company .
