Senator Durbin criticizes Bears Ears National Monument designation reversal

Illinois Senator Richard Durbin says hours after President Donald Trump visited Utah to reverse a preservation designation of President Barack Obama that if you ask local people what they would do with the Bears Ears Monument region, there would not be much to do with it so Obama said to protect it for future generations and President Trump said no. Durbin says America has a wonderful system protecting national parks in the history shows there was always a battle to stop someone who wanted to create a commercial interest there to be protected by the government, that America is not America without its great outdoor spaces and historic monuments the congresses and presidents of both political parties have used to preserve for the benefit of future generations.
